People from all over the world dream of romantic vacations to one of the beautiful islands off the coast of Greece. In addition to all of the ancient mythological aspects that continue to be associated with the country and its surrounding islands, there are some great contemporary features that are equally intriguing. Tourists who are staying in one of the Corfu hotels will be amazed at the incredible views that are greeted with everyday, and will also enjoy the fabulous culture of the island. There are great opportunities for fine dining and unique cuisine offerings and there are more entertainment options on the island than what most people realize.

Theatre is one of the celebrated entertainment options on the island and the people have a long tradition of respect for this performance genre. Of course the origins of Western theatre date back to ancient Greece and the art remains one of strong symbolic importance today. The Municipal Theatre of Corfu was established during the early 20th century to replace the former legendary Nobile Teatro di San Giacomo. The former was tragically destroyed by a series of Luftwaffe aerial bombings during World War II in 1943. Today the new theatre is the main performance space for theatrical productions, opera and music concerts on the island . It is a preferred entertainment for many of the tourists.
